"Subdue and Take Dominion..." Not All That Is Called Science Is True Science!

Few Christians realize that scientific investigation is not only found in the Bible, it is actually commanded of God! After the creation of Adam and Eve, God told them to, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” In this context, to “subdue” means to master by knowing or understanding and to “have dominion” is to reign over or govern. Thus, the Genesis Mandate to subdue and have dominion instructs us to apply the research sciences to the understanding and governing of our world and its inhabitants; and within that context, true science can bring great benefits to our world.

However, not all science is true science. When scientists begin conjecturing on such things as how the universe came to be, how and when the world came into existence, or how and when man arrived on the scene, they have left the realm of pure science and entered the realm of metaphysics—a philosophy. Sadly, the secular majority of the scientific community adheres to the philosophy of naturalism that says all of reality has a completely natural explanation and no supernatural God is necessary.

The discoveries and benefits brought to us through the applied sciences or technologies have been so great that most of us tend to hold the very concept of whatever is declared “scientific” to be the truth. This is simply not true. Much of what we see and hear promoted as scientific reality is, in fact, a pagan philosophy masquerading as legitimate science. The Truth in Science© curriculum instructs your student in how to discern true science from naturalistic philosophy, and it will prepare him to defend his faith in the world as 1 Peter 3:15 instructs.
